Comprehensive
Eye Exam
At Dr Optical Glen Iris, we provide thorough eye examinations to assess both your vision and overall eye health.
- We combine the expertise of optometrists and ophthalmologists to offer patients a full spectrum of eye care services, at a single location. Your vision is personal — and so is our care. We’re proud to offer the highest standard of optometry with a truly individual touch.
- An eye exam is about more than reading letters on a chart. It allows us to assess how your eyes are functioning and to detect early signs of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts. In early stages, these conditions may present with little to no symptoms.
- Our visual demands change over time, and prescription adjustments ensure that you have clear and comfortable vision to tackle a wide range of tasks for the day.
- Your blood vessels at the back of your eyes give us insight into your overall health. We can detect signs of vascular conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure. Early intervention of these conditions allows for better management. We use modern diagnostic equipment to monitor your eye health carefully and we will work closely with your GP or specialist to ensure you receive coordinated care.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Our Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) is a non-invasive scan which provides cross-sectional imaging of the retina.
You can liken an OCT to an ultrasound, but instead of using sound waves, it uses light to create highly detailed cross-section images of the inside of your eye. The scan shows the different layers of the retina, allowing us to see changes that cannot be detected during a standard eye exam.
OCT is used to monitor many retinal conditions, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Its sensitivity can detect retinal changes before symptoms are present.
Wide-Field Retinal Photography
Our Optos ultra-wide field retina camera allows us to photograph up to 200 degrees of the retina in one image. This allows us to assess the peripheral retina, which is where a lot of retinal complications begin. This is particularly important in patients who are high risk of retinal holes, tears or detachments.
Corneal Topographer
Our Oculus keratograph is a corneal topographer used to map the shape and curvature of the cornea, which is the clear front surface of the eye. This is crucial for patients with myopia progression that are undergoing treatments which modify the shape of the cornea, as in Orthoketratology. It is also used for diagnosis of other corneal conditions, such as keratoconus.
Optical Biometer
Our IOL Master is a specific type of optical biometer used to measure the eye's physical dimensions (axial length, corneal curvature, etc.) and determine the power of an intraocular lens (IOL) before cataract surgery.
It is also used by optometrists to measure the length of the eyeball in children to assess the risk of myopia progression. Measuring axial length regularly in patients undergoing myopia management, gives us information to assess whether our treatment plan is working.
Visual Field
Our Medmont Visual Field machine measures your functional vision. It helps detect areas where your vision may be reduced, even if your central vision appears normal. It is particularly important in detecting and monitoring conditions such as glaucoma, neurological conditions and other disorders that can affect peripheral vision.
Visual field testing allows us to identify changes early and monitor them carefully over time to protect your long term eye health.
Dr Roland Bunting is available on site, and is able to diagnose and treat a range of disorders including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts and uveitis.
Eye Injections
An intravitreal injection is an injection into the vitreous cavity at the back of the eye and is a means of delivering medication to the retina of the eye. Intravitreal injections are commonly used for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration, some forms of diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusions.
Iridotomy Laser
A small hole (a peripheral iridotomy) is created in the iris with a laser to equalise the pressure on either side of the iris. This helps to open up the drainage angle and allows the aqueous fluid to drain more freely, preventing any sudden increase in eye pressure.
SLT Laser
This is a type of laser treatment used in the management of glaucoma (optic nerve damage from elevated eye pressure) or ocular hypertension (high eye pressure that has not yet damaged the optic). It is designed to lower the eye pressure to protect the optic nerve from progressive damage, without the need for ongoing eye drops.
Cataract
A cataract is when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy. This is usually age-related and is a gradual process taking place over a number of years. A cataract reduces the amount of light entering the eye and scatters the light, so that the image formed on the retina is poorly focused and you may experience glare or your vision becoming gradually more blurred.
Surgery for cataracts becomes necessary when your vision has worsened to the point that it interferes with your daily activities such as reading or driving, if your hobbies are affected, or if your personal safety is at risk. Cataract surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial implant to restore the vision. Various implants are available depending on your desired focus, including single focus, toric, EDOF (extended depth of focus) and multifocal.
At Dr OPTICAL we can offer direct access to cataract surgery for both privately insured and public patients.
Minor Surgery
Minor surgery is available on site to deal with various eyelid concerns, including skin tags, cysts, chalazia, narrowed tear drainage ducts (causing watery eyes), persistent ingrowing eyelashes, entropion and minor ectropion.

We fit a wide range of contact lenses including daily disposables, multifocal lenses, lenses for astigmatism and specialty designs for more complex prescriptions.
